Nicole's CT Administrator, Dannethia, here. I would like to introduce everyone to the guest ct for this month. Please help us to welcome Isabella. We asked her some questions in order for everyone to get to know her better. Be sure to read the post in it's entirity to fond out what her answers are.
1. Did you paper scrap first or go straight to digital? How long have you been scrapping?
I came across paper scrapping during a trip to South Africa. When I was back home in Austria I wanted to order supplies on the internet to try it out. Instead I discovered digiscrapping. I fell in love immediately (lots and lots of freebies, yippee) and joined my first online scrapbooking community in 2007.
2. What is your strongest scrapping skill on your layouts? Your weakest?
Difficult to say. I think my layouts look nicer when I try to make clean, more graphic style layouts. When I try to be arty, I end up with a huge mess. I wish I could do art journaling pages, but so far I’m really not good at it. I also often struggle with picking fonts for journaling and titles.
3. What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping?
Don’t worry about anything! Go ahead and enjoy yourselves. For a start, forget about rules, about shadowing or composition or anything else. Just have fun. And if there’s something new you would like to learn to improve, there are loads of tutorials and lots and lots of helpful people out there.
4. Describe how you scrap. What program do you use? Where do you start first? Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you? How long does it take you to complete a layout?
This really depends on what I’m scrapping. I’m currently CT member for Meagan’s Creations, and in that position I start with the kit. Usually when I see a kit’s style and colors, I get an idea which photo(s) would go with it.
On other occasions I start with the photos: I made a wedding album for a friend a while back. I started by sorting which/how many photos should be on a page and then picked/bought several kits that went with the photos.
Most of the time I don’t really have a plan when I start a layout. Sometimes the pages come together easily, those are usually the ones that look best at the end of the day. When I start fiddling too much, a layout often gets worse and worse to the point where I don’t like it anymore and dump it.
I can't tell how long it takes me. When I'm really INTO it, I don't notice how much time passes.
5. What is your perfect scrapping enviroment?
I really like my big desk in our guest/computer/future children’s room. I enjoy all the space I have for the printer, my little Bamboo tablet and the usual mess all around me. I like it when it rains outside so I don’t have to feel guilty for spending ANOTHER hour in front of the computer. I wouldn’t mind though if there was a tropical beach outside my window... J
6. What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping?
Spending time with my husband, my family and friends. And taking photos of everything so I can scrapbook them later. J I read a lot. I just started growing a few plants indoors and on our balcony. I should go cycling and rock climbing again and spend more time outdoors in general. (And then take photos and make scrapbooking pages about it.) Hmmm, maybe I am a bit obsessed with scrapbooking …
7. What is one thing you would love to do and haven't - just so you could scrap it?
I would love to have more time for travelling, there are so many places in the world that I would love to visit. Endless opportunities for photos!
8. Is there anyone in the scrapping community who inspires you?
There are so many talented designers and scrappers out there. I always find layouts or kits that inspire me, that make me want to try something new. That’s why I never get bored of scrapbooking.
9. If you could have Nicole create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why?
I love kits with calmer/softer colors. I often use kits with green and beige and brown in it because they are perfect for scrapping outdoor photos.
Since I started doing project 365 in April 2009 it would be great to have an “Everyday Kit” (and some double page layered templates, lazy me …). I would be great if dates, month, days etc. were also available in German, since I do my 365 pages in German.
