July's Guest CT

1. Did you paper scrap first or go straight to digital? How long have you been scrapping?
I started paper scrapping in 2001 and I decided to try digital scrapping in 2009 (after having PSE for a year). I love digital scrapping but I still have my paper stash for when I feel like paper scrapping. It's just kind of depressing when I go back through the books I've made and see that they are coming unglued. Don't have that problem with digital scrapping! :)
2. What is your strongest scrapping skill on your layouts? Your weakest?
I think journaling is my strongest point because I hear a lot of people saying that they are no good a journaling and I feel a layout is not complete without it. I think my weakest skill is Word Art. It looks so easy when I look at it but when I try to do it I just can't figure out where to start.
3. What advice would you give someone just starting out digi-scrapping?
Look around on the internet for some tutorials and then just jump in (that's what I did). I've also suggested getting together with somebody who digi scraps and let them give you a demonstration.
4. Describe how you scrap. What program do you use? Where do you start first? Do you always have something in mind when you start, or do you let your creativity guide you? How long does it take you to complete a layout?
When scrap for myself, I usually pick my pictures first and then go find a kit. But if I have just bought a new kit (or have a ct kit I have to work with) then finding my pictures is my second step. I use PSE 9 (although sometimes it really aggravates me in ways that PSE 7 never did) for my layouts and sometimes I use GIMP for my journaling (love that circular journaling). I usually have something in mind when I start a layout, but by the time I finish it looks nothing like what I started out with. Sometimes when I get ready to make a big change to my layout, I'll save the current layout in order to make a template of it for later use. It takes me about an hour to do a layout, but I will leave it up on my screen for awhile and the more I look at it, the more I can see what it needs to be finished.
5. What is your perfect scrapping environment?
I usually scrap in my scrapbook room on my desktop, but sometimes I'll sit in the in the living room while my husband is watching TV and scrap on my laptop.
6. What's your favorite thing to do BESIDES scrapping?
Reading
7. What is one thing you would love to do and haven't - just so you could scrap it?
Go to Hawaii!!
8. Is there anyone in the scrapping community who inspires you?
I admire those people who have only digi scrapped a couple of months and then jumped into designing.
9. If you could have Nicole create a kit just for you, what colors, theme, etc would it be and why?
I would like an everyday kind of kit with peach, light green and cream. I just love those colors together and if it was an everyday kind of kit I could use it a lot!
First Layout
I guess this isn't too bad for a first layout even if it looks more like a paper layout than a digi layout - but what was I thinking when I put all that shadow on that tittle?
Favorite LayoutI just love the simplicity of this layout (and I've always loved that set of pictures of my daughter at the beach - that could be part of why I like this layout so much)
Layout using Digi-designs by Nicole productsI used Tee Time for this layout. I originally bought the kit to scrap all the golf pictures I have, but looking at this layout, I think it makes a great kit for pictures with the old camo uniforms.
Most Recent LayoutLuckily, I'm behind in my scrapping so I had some 4th of July pics for This Little Missy's new kit Americana.
